The Beacon of Hope Award was established in 2015 to recognize an entity or individual in our community who provides significant contributions to end the fight against cancer in Hawaii. These advocates demonstrate outstanding commitment to the mission of American Cancer Society in the areas of patient care, advocacy, access to care and/or health disparities. Our 2018 recipient of the Beacon of Hope Award is Lawrence “Larry” Rodriguez.
Larry joined the Clarence T.C. Ching Hope Lodge Hawaii Capital Campaign Cabinet in 2014. His determination and perseverance to bring awareness of this important project and raise the significant capital to bring Hope Lodge to fruition was instrumental in the success of the campaign. Larry worked closely with ACS Major Gifts Director, Cathy Alsup to open doors and articulate the need for Hope Lodge to businesses, foundations and individuals.
For more than a 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. Together, we’re saving lives, celebrating lives, and leading the fight for a world without cancer. There’s never been a better time to invest in that vision. With our supporters, we’re making important contributions that have led to significant progress against cancer. Prevention efforts, early detection, and better treatments have resulted in a 25 percent decline in cancer mortality rates since 1991, avoiding 2.1 million cancer deaths nationwide.
